On Wednesday 4th March, 2020, Barrister Nudra B. Majeed (President AKF) participated in a UVAS group discussion on Women’s rights in recognition of the International Women’s Day in Pakistan.
Ms. Nudra discussed about the protection of women’s rights provided in the Quranic verses and in the Constitution of Pakistan along with laws incorporated in the national and provincial legislature. She also referred to the international treaties and covenants, signed by Pakistan, which require to place measures and reforms for achieving the objectives of women empowerment and gender main-streaming.
Additionally, the panel also discussed and debated at length the ground realities on laws suppressing women’s rights and the situation of women in Pakistan, influenced by several factors of difference in religion, class, economic condition and ethnicity.
