The 4th Alam al-Khayal National Tennis Championship (Junior Division) closed on 21st January, 2017. Sports lovers of Lahore were treated to enjoyable tennis competitions of 10 year olds through to 18 year olds in the historic gardens of Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore. Over 100 players came from all over Pakistan to compete in the event.
At the Closing Ceremony, AKF President, Nudra Abdel-Majeed said a prayer and held a one minute silence to mark the recent tragic death of Shehryar Malik (age 25 yrs) on 12th Rabi al-Awwal, 1438 / 12th December, 2016. Shehryar was an accomplished tennis player and scion of PLTA Secretary Rashid Malik’s family, well reputed for its performance and contribution to tennis in Pakistan.
AKF announced a special new Award called the “Shehryar Malik Memorial Award”. This Award will sponsor junior Pakistani players to participate in the ATF international development training camps held in Bangkok, Thailand.
